Kreativität wird als eine der wichtigsten ökonomischen Ressourcen beschrieben. Untersuchungen haben ergeben, dass Kreativität eines der Merkmale ist, die für die Bewältigung des gegenwärtigen komplexen Geschäftsumfelds am dringendsten benötigt werden. Daher ist sie für viele Unternehmen eine Schlüsselkompetenz und es werden vermehrt Chief Innovation Officers (CIO) in die Geschäftsleitungen aufgenommen.Der CRE-W unterstützt Organisationen bei der Personalauswahl und -entwicklung, indem er einschätzt, wie Kandidat*innen auf situationsbezogene, realistische Arbeitsprobleme reagieren. Er misst die Innovationsfähigkeit der Testteilnehmenden und die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass sie ihre kreative Initiative am Arbeitsplatz einsetzen werden.Beim CRE-W handelt es sich um einen „Szenario Test“, auch Situational Judgement Test genannt. Es werden eine Reihe von 19 Szenarien präsentiert, die Dilemmata darstellen, die typischerweise bei der Arbeit auftreten können. Dazu gibt es jeweils vier bis sechs verschiedene Lösungsansätze. Die Testperson muss bei jedem Lösungsansatz angeben, wie wahrscheinlich es ist, dass sie dementsprechend handeln würde.Die Bewertungen geben Informationen über zugrundeliegende Tendenzen zur generellen Neigung zu kreativen Denk- und Handlungsweisen, die sogenannte Kreative Initiative, sowie zum neuartigen (divergenten) und zum andersartigen (konvergenten) kreativen Denkstil im Arbeitsleben. Die Durchführung und Auswertung erfolgt elektronisch im HTS. Um 1911 begann Hermann Rorschach mit der Entwicklung seines auf der Deutung von symmetrischen Klecks-Gebilden beruhenden projektiven Verfahrens. Er bezeichnete das Verfahren als wahrnehmungsdiagnostisches Experiment: Vorhandene Erinnerungsbilder werden vom Probanden an rezente Empfindungskomplexe geknüpft, ausgelöst durch die Vorlage des unstrukturierten Bildmaterials. Aus seinen Forschungsergebnissen schloss Rorschach, dass sich aus den Deutungen Rückschlüsse auf Persönlichkeitsstruktur und Dynamik eines Menschen ziehen lassen.Der Rorschach-Test ist heute ein weit verbreitetes psychologisches Verfahren, das besonders bei klinischen Fragestellungen angewandt wird. Die Auswertung erfolgt formal und inhaltlich. Rorschach selbst sah vor allem den formalen Aspekt der Auswertung als bedeutungsvoll an (Ganz- oder Detaildeutung, Bevorzugung von Farbe, Form oder Bewegung sowie außerdem Inhalt und Originalität der Deutung). Zur Erstellung des Psychogramms werden daneben die Antwortenzahl, die Aufeinanderfolge der Erfassungsmodi, der Erlebnistypus, Vulgär- und Originalantworten u.a. untersucht. Es kann eine Nachbefragung erfolgen. Die abschließende inhaltsanalytische Interpretation ist tiefenpsychologisch orientiert. Die Testdurchführung unterliegt keiner Alters- und Zeitbegrenzung. Zum Rorschach-Test sind bisher über 4.000 Publikationen erschienen. Das klassische Buch zum Rorschach-Test liegt inzwischen - inhaltlich unverändert, äußerlich aber angeglichen an die bibliophile Ausgabe von 1954 mit dem farbigen Kleisterpapier-Umschlag, die damals nur in wenigen Exemplaren verbreitet wurde - in der 11. Ein Rorschachverfahren mit 3 Tafeln für individuelle psychologische Prüfungen.

Mit dem Thematischen Gestaltungstest (Salzburg) legten W. J. Revers und H. Widauer 40 Jahre nach Erscheinen des Thematischen Apperzeptionstests (TAT) von Murray einen neu begründeten und gestalteten Ansatz dieses in der klinischen Praxis für viele unentbehrlich gewordenen Verfahrens vor. Die Bildvorlagen können entsprechend der im Vergleich zum TAT geänderten Konzeption des Verfahrens auf zuvor anamnestisch erfasste Indikatoren für durchlebte Konfliktsituationen bezogen werden, wozu der standardisierte Anamnestische Datenkatalog dient. Im Handbuch zum TGT gehen W. J. Revers und C. G. Allesch neben einer ausführlichen Beschreibung des Verfahrens, der Testanweisung und den Auswertungsmodalitäten auch auf die verschiedenen Aspekte der Validität sog. projektiver Verfahren ein.
